Where is the Victory

Rat urine dripping onto my drying body-armour. Sergei’s guts spread outside the trench waiting for the thaw of Spring. My breath, a ghost joins their spirits. What honour in toasting A platoon of Russian sons The smell of excreta each time A shell flies by, precursor To my screams, a whoosh, a rush ...

Re: No Papier Mache Doll, This

As I understand it, to use another poet's words in a poem is plagiarising. Hence when I used lines from Bernie's poem to introduce my poem Frosted Garden (1st Place 2017 IBPC), I posted them as an epigraph and gave the name of Bernie's poem -'Winterset (2007) and his name. Bernie fully approved of t...

Yes, as she greets him with a kiss her tears drop down on his face.

I am depressed reading this.
It only gets worse then we die.
Good reflection on the fear of death
or rather the process that leads to death.

Re: Upcoming October IBPC 2022:

I'll post my poem 'Majesty' if and when it is selected. I/we will be looking for consensus - in keeping with a communal workshop environment Which 1-3 would we like to see represent the Writer's Block in the finals? After the 3 are selected, then will each author post - in this thread - the poem as ...

Re: IBPC June 2022 Winners Congratulations Our Meena's first placing

Meena developed her writing craft in this forum for the most part.
Although she has won 3rd placing for June in another forum, I am still
extremely pleased that she persevered and developed in here with the help
of other poets.
Well done, Meena.

Re: On Giving To The Poor

I met one day a demented man a tramp, unwashed, unloved I went straight home This was after church you understand and asked my beloved to make a sandwich which we wrapped in foil, I travelled down that windswept, dreary road and offered to the man, his terror made me cringe. I threw the offering at ...

Re: Man Of The House

But why make it a puzzle, Billy. It's a good poem.
Why not say Nan for mother-in-law, or name her so we know.

In Welsh we would say Nain, so everyone would know.
But you can use American speke if you like
It just helps the reader concentrate on the poem.

Re: On Giving To The Poor

Bob, you write some really interesting takes on modern society. I remember giving a rupee coin to a beggar-woman in India. She returned the coin, not enough, she seemed to say, and wanted a note. She had her standards, standing outside an hotel all day and sharing her baby to ooh-aah tourists was wo...
