Last Day At The Vet's

Last Day At The Vet's I rub his muzzle, stroke his belly's white patch. Does he sense what's coming? His eyes are moist. Like many aging dogs, his knees faltered first. Anti-inflammatory drugs helped. An eye fogged over. Back legs began to buckle. For months I carried him upstairs laying him on my b...

Re: Genesis Revisited

Ha! I love that opening stanza. The language! “Snotted our”…love it. Who would have thought? And dust in the nasal passage of God… uniquely imagined.

We were once just dust in
the nasal passage of God
who snotted out the first
of our kind in an English
garden in dire need of weeding.

Anne Hathaway Marries

Anne Hathaway Marries Such a wet summer! Will’s index finger rowing back and forth 'tween my drenched legs… He looked at me with eyes as bright as a brook’s. How couldst I not fall in love? What did we have in common? I was 26, Will a mere 18. I was at a marrying age, Will at an age of drinking with...

Re: No Papier Mache Doll, This

I like the simplicity of this, and am intrigued by Meena Kandaswamy. But I'm curious. What is her "take on our village goddesses"? Show us an example of her poking at the hierarchy, how she thinks "original". Specifics will make the poem even better.

Will

Will Anne sailed into my summer like a ship loaded with spices. Her blonde hair an ode to sunlight, her breasts as boldly pushed out ahead of her as a vessel’s figurehead, I was awash in love's wake. I tutored but 'twas Anne took me under her wing and schooled me in more than kisses. Her sea wall br...

Re: Babushka

I like this simple, straight forward piece, Ieuan. The subdued telling and understatement is handled well. I do wonder how the woman washes the soldier's face with her tears...Is it because he sees her and tears up? Or because she embraces him, leaving tears on his face? Other than that, no nits: a ...

My Son’s Band…Making Hamburg Forget The Beatles

My Son’s Band…Making Hamburg Forget The Beatles For months they pounded away on drums with the “intensity of a mugging,” as one neighbor put it. "God, the tinnitus I got from those electric guitars... Only 2 year olds whine worse. Only they don’t jam together in garages on Sunday mornings!” To be ho...

Re: Poet

Some nice lines in this fine piece… that nice hook of an opening line for one.

These lines stood out especially:

He’s forgotten youth.
Youth has forgotten him as is
only fair.

…as is only fair…ha!

Also,

The moon was mysterious, gentle,
as he saw himself, and hidden
in a dark cloud of words.
