Where were you?
You are as slow as a day

Re: Newly Wed Start Their Marriage At The House Of The Groom's Parents

Bob,
Is this how you suggested --the 'as if ' part.Otherwise, can you redo it? The bedroom and the bathroom, are the two rooms. It is ' as if marriage revolved around these two rooms only.'

Thank you for suggestions to edit. I have changed all three but retained the 'nose lift' because 'face lift' sounds cliched

Newly Wed Start Their Marriage At The House Of The Groom's Parents

V2 Newly Wed Start Their Marriage At The House Of The Groom's Parents The Madras Terrace house was partitioned into four huge portions with no concept of attached bathrooms. A year passed, and the house received a face lift; a store room was transformed to a modern bath like one of those rooms in th...

Grandma in a Bullet Train

V2 When Grandma was just ninety-seven she wished to travel to Varanasi by the Bullet Train. We managed to get her seated in her wheel-chair and before she had recollected the first coal engine the driver, the coal feeder and the soot in her hair, the train had blasted 400 km a hour, non- stop; Grand...

Summer Unnoticed

My poem has now been published! Here's the link: https://medium.com/lockdown-journal-chennai/summer-unnoticed-42220c3b243d Every year I see summer way ahead in Chennai pushed to the pillow with giddiness slipping into half slumber in the AC bedroom in my corner work space with my desk-top. Every day...

Walking Home After School

V1 We walked from East Fort to Manacaud carrying books like babies close to our breasts past the fort Tippu Sultan demolished but was rebuilt in a day with red and white bricks, past the local prison with rusted window grills taking care not to peep into those formidable gates. Friday’s incense waft...

The Purple Cabbage

She put the purple cabbage in the salad bowl tossed it along with lithium in the salad spinner. Now you know she had no need to use the scissors, or the shears, or even heat the skewers to finish off. Twenty minutes before her husband started she would add the lithium in the salt shaker, sprinkle th...

Sunrise on the Cauvery at Pugalur

V i 2 tmcft water was released at Mettur Dam in summer to save the standing crops from drying up. Once when I was a child I have seen the water rise up to the dam, level with the bridge. I thought I was going to be submerged and dead. But the train kept going over the tracks. I have never seen water...
