Like Oil and Vinegar
All great men know one thing: Nobody listens. Violence is the Language of the ignored. Mandela Hated it and used it judiciously. Van Gogh turned it inward and Ended with it. But Jesus. Jesus Was born to it and cradled it As one would a swaddling babe, Accepted it, defined it even. John Kennedy said,...

They sign up for 3 months. The judge who had August also had September and October.
A new judge would take November December and January.

I like this. The historical backdrop, the fact that Havana cigars were illegal, and the usage of ' still dealing from the fallout.' Some well used turns of phrase. I recall when JFK was on TV and urged Americans to build fallout shelters

My Father's Hands
I have robbed your bones, unfurled the rough burlap bundle I keep them in. They're too old for soup so I make a fife from a finger, carve the holes , hollow it out. I remember your hands, how they could build anything, repair anything. I saw you knock a man unconscious for swearing in the presence o...

The impact knocks him out of his shoes, which stand there legless, one toed south, the other studs in a westerly direction. When the synapses fire, the basal ganglia lights up like a trunkless tree, only a tangle of branches with tips ablaze. He can still write his name in the mirror - mist. Water d...

Shah of Iran
In the shadow of Mount Damavand a phalanx of Cedars needle back those who push a little to get a clear view of downtown Teheran. In 1936 the Shah wanted moderation for his country, thought its religious practices a bar against modernity. Beginning with Kashf-e hijab which outlawed wearing the veil, ...

Genesis Revisited
We were once just dust in the nasal passage of God who snotted out the first of our kind in an English garden in dire need of weeding. And when he awoke, the divot in his side was browned-over where the hand went in, drew out the bone, and now there are seven billion of us, enough they say, to build...

I do not think it plagiarism to use a poet's words in a poem about the poet. The definition is to try and pass the work off as one's own.
