A SANDWICH, A KEY, AND A SCARF

#1 Post by SivaRamanathan » 03 Sep 2015, 10:18

Edited

It is Chemotherapy

A few hundred children
with scarves on their heads
what do you make of it ?

As I play with the key
your teeth makes impressions
on the sandwich
a line of poetry zooms in my head.

I see balloons in their hands
and pain in their throats.

Hi Siva,

the cadence of the 3 items in the poem's title:

"rhythmic echoes of the lion the witch the wardrobe"

Perhaps the line "and it's not funny" is editorial and not needed.

Your poem is stark & poignant; recalls to me Stan Rice, in particular "Duet on Iberville Street" :

The man in black leather
Buying a rat to feed his python
Does not dwell on particulars.
Any rat will do.
While walking back from the pet store
I see a man in a hotel garage
Carving a swan in a block of ice
With a chain saw.

and now I also hear in the cadence of A SANDWICH, A KEY, AND A SCARF another titular echo of 3 :

the good the bad and the ugly

and the humane

But I think the contrast here is that there is a semblance of a relationship between 'the lion the witch the wardrobe' or the 'the good the bad and the ugly'. And there is none between 'A SANDWICH, A KEY, AND A SCARF', other than the obvious construed by the poet.

Thank you. I did not even know that there is poetry in it.
