at the back of our minds
out of the sky
flying thunder
pieces of night
shadows of ourselves
looking away when we look
gathering in loneliness
picking at leftovers
wise to the world
clever beyond the natural
ubiquitous harbingers
of our strength
of the fruitful darkness
at the back of our minds
Re: at the back of our minds
Billy---
a poem that takes no prisoners, that offers no false shelter in sentimentality---i like the poem just fine.
especially the chances taken by that string of long words in the final verse, as though the poem defies us not to like it and find melody in the unwashed dents and gaps.
