The Road

I'm a constant traveler.
Bag never completely empty.
An itinerary often mislaid or

changed at the last moment
for a once in a lifetime event.
In the aftermath, I sleep

dream of a road with signs
or a clearing to places
I've never been. A road

that seems endless going
in every direction at once.
When I awaken, my bag

is still packed, nothing
can hold me or compare
to the dream of a road

to everywhere and nowhere
always another moment
another dream, another sign

another landmark promising
a destination, one more city
one more mountain away.

i wonder what happens if several specific locations are referenced, remarks about weather, old folks on rockers, kids waving.
