The atheist is mistaken in thinking a priest can
take away the night terror that comes suddenly with the
shadow of death. No, the hold of the priest is reserved
for men of superstition: the pagan in the jungle
who is afraid of witchdoctors, who shakes at the thought of
spells or the man who sees ghosts at every street corner.
The man of God needs no such priest; he is a priest of God.
He rests on the promises found in the bible, that his
soul will not remain in hell. 'Surely you will not allow
my body to stay in the grave,’ says the just man of God.
The true believer rests on the work done on the cross, a
propitiation, an appeasement of God’s anger at
the wicked. At the moment of death Satan will accuse,
fear will afflict both believer and unbeliever
alike, But for men of faith, Christ will console and strengthen
for the trial of crossing through the waters to Jordan.
