"disembark" (poem prompted by photograph)
L i b e r t y
not only in black & white
like stained glass
created by humans
of many broken hues
(for which we stand
indivisible under God)
nevermore an iron statue
rooted like a barked tree
I am with you always
the ruby is not earthbound
right above the rock from the start
in the Harbor of the Humane
led free under the same sun
the wise window-watcher
forever keeping the heat out
lets only the light in
and upon arrival (AOA)
all the colors appearing cleared

When I read the last stanza I'm thinking this has taken on the refugee and immigration ban. Yes, no? I like first stanza much better.

Michael---
love to see a poet going for broke, the heart wide open and unprotected.
a good lesson, good example for me.
i liked the poem, the whole poem. i don't write like that, but i think i will try one soon.
ain't i got heart too? well, let's see.
(alas , the picture did not open for me.)

the flow manages skillful changes of both attitude and thrust---the result is that the poem is fresh with every line without any need to shock or disorient the reader. very professional, very skillful.

In the Harbour of the Humane
In the forests of the night;
You have a way with 'minimalist' writing.

I am sure there is much more in the poem that only an American can 'get.' I also like the way you title 'Liberty' with space between letters.
