Swarming

#1 Post by Billy » 18 Sep 2017, 06:40

Swarming

Stand still, don't get excited,
they can sense it.
That's what I told myself
just before a bee left his calling card
in the back of my hand.

I was watering the Boston fern on our patio.
A horde had taken refuge in its little jungle
and weren't pleased with a bath.

I keep ferns wet. I remembered
that bees like water,
and the plant was sitting in it.
It was a spa to them.

I called my wife, later, from work,
told her to stay clear of the patio.
I searched Google to discover
their genus species, what the hell to do
to get rid of them.

I'd rather not hurt them,
just encourage their vacating the premises.
Right now they seem pretty adamant
about staying.

It's hard to be a friend
when your hand is achy and itchy.
They're creatures doing what they do.
I'm a creature, too, doing what I do,
but I have a conscience that's stinging.

Very engaging poem.
The last line
but I have a conscience that's stinging.

can it be

but I have a conscience that stings.

A very engaging piece, Billy....a lot of fun. I like the humor...the calling card, the spa, the lighthearted yet serious subject...

Billy---

fine.

however, the poem asks a lot of reader time to study a bee...a bee sting.

difficult to get? nope.

They're creatures doing what they do.
I'm a creature, too, doing what I do,

anything else?

my wife suggests zen.

you see what i'm asking, brevity, and some kick at the end.
