Superman and Lois Lane

#1 Post by BobBradshaw » 15 Jan 2018, 22:17

Superman and Lois Lane

I want to open up to Superman
like a moist plant to light.

Just as I think I'm beginning
to crack that boulder in his chest

he calls a heart, his phone rings.
"Sorry, Lois. I have to take this…"

and suddenly he's diving out
an open window, waving g'bye.

He's right, of course. Saving
the world comes first. Just once

couldn't he give me priority?
Supe, I whisper as I lean into

his unblemished body, I know
you're the best in the world

at your job. But are you the best
romantic? It's a weakness that

you could work on. "You're right,"
he says, in that convivial voice

--kind, generous, the same voice
he talks to everyone with. Why

can't he talk to me in a different
voice, hushed, raspy, heavy?

But how can I not forgive him?
When he does find time for a quick

kiss, a surge of energy floods
my nerves. It's like a power outage

and suddenly the power grid is online
again, every suburb in my body

lighting up. All night as he circles
the planet, saving Paris, New Delhi,

Minneapolis, I lie on my bed,
adrift in dreams, a cruise ship

on a dark sea, its portals
brightly lit

Ah, poor Lois, he's just too perfect to everyone else. A great fun read and I love the ending. Good write, Bob.

Told from an earthlings point of view, a female in love.
Isn't it always like that,
well done Bob.

another successful persona poem

MarveLous

Marvelust

In the background Emily Dickinson's "Wild nights, wild nights" poem is heard by this reader.
Is Lois experiencing ED moments of ecstasy

b/c for "Supe," romance is like kryptonite

So many good poems this month Bob
it's going to be hard to choose
