Crows Fighting - revised

#1 Post by BobBradshaw » 03 Mar 2018, 23:10

Crows Fighting

The loud knocking
was a crow hitting my window--
the pane vibrating
from his drubbing.

He stepped back on the ledge
expecting his opponent
to fall backwards into my den.
Both crows stared at each other
with their bluish grey eyes,

till one flew off,
a feather falling to the ground.
Roosting in a pine tree,
he re-considered his strategy.

He swooped back
half-expecting his enemy
to have abandoned
his post.

Again he hammered the glass
furiously. His opponent
stared back, as stoic
as a gunfighter.
Finally, he flew off,
his flight wobbly, to a neighbor's lot,
refusing to look back,

like me never
admitting defeat,
and likely to get
into the same fight
over and over
again.

Nice Bob. Took me a sec to realize there was only one crow and you handled that masterfully. Last stanza is good. Rather abrupt though and one would wish for a smooths seque, but the point is made well, regardless.
