was
the kind old lady
talking to herself
rolled up nylons
sagging around her ankles
the grocery cart
a Rolls Royce of carts
living on wheels
a tour of the city
all the less popular spots
friends with prime property
overlooking the river
eccentric homes
nothing fancy
what they lack in space
they make up for
with warmth and privacy
out of the rain
until they become too soggy
fall down
there's always another box
another hideaway
where only the milieu
may look
otherwise no one
comes looking
for what they don't
want to find

Re: was
nice, unpretentious poem...some of many good lines:
there's always another box
another hideaway
where only the milieu
may look
there's always another box
another hideaway
where only the milieu
may look

Hi Billy, a familiar WB & IBPC poet
good to see your presence in poetry here
my fav:
"eccentric homes
nothing fancy
what they lack in space
they make up for
with warmth and privacy"
and
"where only the milieu
may look
otherwise no one
comes looking
for what they don't
want to find"
also, interesting the title

Your first line says it all. I like the shape of the poem.
