Mahaaprasthaana -The Great Journey

“Death is a most natural experience, not to be feared.
It is a quick transition from the physical world to the astral plane..."
Satguru S'ivaya Subramuniyaswami, p. 99.

I fear not hell nor of Satan
I fear a woeful birth
even a devilish mind
brought on by the negative states in:
fear, hate bigotry, jealousy, and anger.
I fear Adityas with the negative qualities
of: deception and hurtfulness,
but infinitely more so of the Danavas
those malevolent spirits that twist the soul.

I have left Mrtyulokum – the mortal world
ruled by Lord Kala – a manifestation
of Brahman personified by Time.

I have travelled from the organs of
my former body, through the channel
Udana and left the head via the aperture.
I did not take the northern route
to Parandhama but took the southern
route to the ancestral world located
in the sphere of the moon. I await
with millions, among these dusty plains,
the exhaustion of my karma.

I see the earth shining in all her glory,
her continents of green and white,
her ravishingly beautiful blue oceans,
and her flowered skies of fluffed-up clouds.
Oh how heart yearns to return from whence
I came.

I lived a virtuous life of duty to the law
of God, I know I will in time
rerurn with the rain to plants
and from there food and then to semen
that enters the womb of a woman
to be reborn according to my past actions.

I avoided the third path to the hells
of subterranean worlds where those who
have sinned in hatred and anger, who killed
the image of God, these reside awaiting
rebirth as worms and vile creatures
that crawl along the desert floors.
However will they break the terrible
circle of death and dishonour there.

Frank, this is a finely crafted poem. I confess total lack
of familiarity with most of the terms and philosophies.
