i love the way you say goodbye

not a tease
nor a tear wiped away
that isn’t really there

a raised hand
like a white flag
when all is lost

lips utter words
i can’t decipher
but know by heart

walking into a shadow
looking back
your face indelible

you always return
with more tears
than can be wiped away
