Follow the Poem

#1 Post by BobBradshaw » 16 Jan 2020, 06:10

V3:

Follow the Poem

I am a poem for you.
Believe in me as you would
a valentine

from a secret admirer.
I will find you a love.
Like a Hollywood studio

I will dispatch
my best talent scouts
to discover her.

While other couples
sit across from each other
at meals, heads bowed, lost

in their phones as if trying
to understand a poem
dreadfully obscure,

I will be as clear
as a meme or an emoji,
or your heart’s diary.

Even now I’m confident
you will fall in love
when you least expect it.

Maybe it will be a farm girl
you meet online, or a doll maker
from Seattle with big eyes.

You're shy. My advice?
Take public transit.
Practice talking with strangers.

Casually comment on the rain,
or how you love Chinese food,
especially the congee.

Even now your future bride
could be driving in from San Diego.
Or standing on a street corner

that your bus stops at, a tourist
alone in the city, in need
like you of directions.

V2:

I am a poem for you,
small as a cell phone.
Believe in me. Carry me

in your palm even
when crossing streets—
as one would a smartphone—

only let me shield you
from traffic accidents,
or blaring horns.

Fall in love with me,
a valentine
from a secret admirer.

I will find you a love.
Like a Hollywood studio
I will dispatch

my best talent scouts
across the globe
to discover her.

I am your matchmaker,
and love you with an
unconditional love.

While other couples
sit across from each other
at meals, heads bowed, lost

in their phones as if trying
to understand a poem
dreadfully obscure,

I will be as clear
as a meme or an emoji,
or your heart’s diary.

Even now I’m confident

Bob

Read this. But I have to read a couple of more times, before I can say anything. I generally like it, but don't you think it is a little too long ? I am not saying something for the sake of saying, though. I will come back to it later.
