Patriot Day 2020   (observing the weekend)

#1 Post by Michael (MV) » 13 Sep 2020, 02:40

9-15-2001   (a song of experience)

By that Saturday
morning, another small

son powers off
The Mighty Morphin Rangers,
slams down the remote
and demands --

"Where is my father
you said he should be home by now?"

By mid-morning snack,
a loss of appetite for PB&J,
and the last he saw
in cartoons or staying tuned for
more make believe

superheroes,
as he changed stations
and searched with the rescue
workers in HD on the big screen.

Hi Siva,

PB&J: Peanut Butter & Jelly

Do you know of Blake's
Songs of Innocence & Songs of Experience? The Lamb & The Tiger, respectively.

This is on the 4th day after September 11th 2001 - a Saturday, a day when Dads are home from work and spend time bonding with their young sons; they go to the park, zoo, fishing.

This poem moves from innocence to experience as it maturates. This is alluded to in the parenthetical epigraph.

Siva, if I say more I risk explaining the poem.
I believe you are an astute reader and I hope the above poet's note puts you in the know of the nuances

😎

Yes, this poem works when one pays attention to the title. Very good understatement.
