A Boy's Life

#1 Post by Kenneth2816 » 20 Feb 2021, 07:15

When Jesus was a kid
he turned three boys

Into sparrows because
they pissed him off.

No matter how many times
his Mom tried to tell him,

You are different, You are special.
You are meant for something

bigger, all he wanted was
to be a fireman when he grew up.

He could have been big
In real estate or the Market-

head of his own company,
but he gave himself to the

sick, the poor and the needy.
He blessed the meek

stood up for the outcast, the
downtrodden and the weary.

Today there is not a single bridge
or airport named after him,

though they say he still has our
backs and is never far away.

He really doesn't mind if you toss
a coin now and then for luck

as long as you remember the widow
and orphan in their time of distress,

for in his eyes, this is pure
and undefiled religion.

Good deeds go unsung,
Perhaps the way he wanted.

Kenneth,

Wonderful to find this poem of yours here this Saturday AM - I experienced a robust spontaneous overflow of response; however, time won't allow me to share at this time -

I do hope to return soon -
Kenneth, Thanks for posting this broem,

😎

Though he never set foot in a church, Gandhi patterned his life on the model of Christ. He said he loved Christ, but had no good words for Christians.

He read the Bible daily and had a knowledge of scripture that would put a Harvard seminarian to shame.

Hi Ken,

I have read this about Gandhi:

"Gandhi patterned his life on the model of Christ."

^^ and, as I understand it & believe, that is the actually meaning of "christian" : Christ-like - followers of Christ.

Ken, as mentioned earlier in the thread
this poem appeals to me.

I find the opening appealing & important. As as I understand it & believe, Christ is God-incarnate: both divine & human. Therefore Christ experienced boyhood as both divine & juvenile puerile.

I believe His parable "Prodigal Son" is autobiographical. I relate to it, and I believe myself to be christian,

imperfectly, of course
