Mozart In The Fall

#1 Post by BobBradshaw » 26 Oct 2023, 08:02

Mozart In The Fall

I’m 10 again, kicking the leaves.
“Wake up! Don’t lie there!”
Unlike these leaves Mozart’s music

is always alive to me.
Whenever I choose I can recall
Divertimento in D playing,

as lively as a bachelor party.
My heart for the moment
is as light as a soap bubble.

I recall my bachelor party,
my father, a divorce attorney,
for once mercifully

not offering advice.
The sadness and happiness
of that night…wasn’t I

just raising toasts yesterday?
How quickly youth passes!
Like Mozart’s grave

it’s nowhere to be found,
and yet his music
is everywhere around me,

the past and present a hybrid,
inseparable, mixing together
in different ways

moment by moment,
like light and water.

As a kid I liked to stuff leaves
into my pockets.
What the heck. I do it again

feeling wistful, perhaps.
As I enter the front door,
taking off my coat,

my wife meets me with news
of a failing neighbor.
Going through my pockets

she wonders, “Why
are leaves here?” I shrug.
What can I say? It's a reminder

to enjoy this life
as much as if it were one
of Mozart’s divertimentos
—before I too join the fallen.

No one makes any decent critiques in the poetry world anymore. It is all about saying
something nice no mind how bad the poem is. I've yet to see one decent review from
anyone since Bernie disappeared.

Through the years, have I not provided an informed & insightful workshop-sharing?

Yes, I haven't been available much this last of 2023, because I have been needed elsewhere.

But I would experience another void in my life if the Writer's Block wasn't here.

Yes, Thank you, Bob, Frank, and Billy for continuing to workshop here.

There is instability on my homefront, and the days ahead might become even more taxing & challenging.

Perhaps, I can find sanctuary here reading & workshopping, in addition to the reading of posts here, which I have been doing when time permits.

I am with you always

Michael, Please excuse me, I thought it was obvious
that you were the most productive as regards critiques.
I can see that it might have impacted you, Bob
and also Billy. My apologies follow.

No offence felt; no apology needed.

I was just observing and stating that here still exists a productive workshop, thanks to you, Frank, and Bob, and Bill - veterans of the Writer's Block.

Also, I thought to explain my unusual absences. And I add here: It has nothing to do with the inactivity of the IBPC.

In the spirit of clarification,

Michael (MV)

I understand, Michael. My home front all year has been unstable, if not nightmarish at times.

Bob, Frank,

Your shared communications here tell me we have more in common than dedication to Poetry.

With in the last 10 years, 3 close relatives have experienced a terminal status

and then received the Miracle Life out of this world

There is no end of Life - only our time here ends(as it did even for Jesus Christ)

Not afterlife; Life after here

Eternally

😎

I’m sorry to hear you’ve lost 3 close relatives, Michael.

And my heart goes out to you, Ieuan.

Hang in there

Thanks Friends
Sadly, I think we are all in the same boat of suffering.
