Tambourine Man

#1 Post by Billy » 09 Nov 2023, 07:48

Tambourine Man

There was a born again
who thought he was called.
The Holy Spirit had burned away

the alcohol, drugs, and cigarettes.
Now, he sang on the campus knoll
in front of the science building,

witnessed from the boulder
with a bronze plaque
commemorating the founder.

Nobody paid much attention.
He didn't care. God was watching.
They had to know where he'd been,

how he came to be on that boulder.
He might as well have been standing
on the world, his voice full of passion

and conviction, waking the multitudes.
If just one soul heard and believed
he gave thanks to Jesus,

shook the tambourine high in the air,
and sang glory, glory, hallelujah!
A lost sheep had been found.

Evocative,
It's true.
Desperate men can turn around
Well done, Billy.

Very vivid character…. The scene comes to life with this fine writing. No crits.

They had to know where he'd been,

how he came to be on that boulder.
He might as well have been standing
on the world, his voice full of passion

and conviction, waking the multitudes.
If just one soul heard and believed
he gave thanks to Jesus,

shook the tambourine high in the air,
and sang glory, glory, hallelujah!
A lost sheep had been found

This is a great poem, Billy. It is clear, and it flows really well. It tells a realistic story, one that people can relate to.

Thanks Caleb, welcome. I don't poet here as much as Bob and Frank, but I've always liked the Block. Siva posts probably more than me, too.
