Christmas Day 2023

#1 Post by Billy » 25 Dec 2023, 21:23

Christmas Day 2023

I don't celebrate Christmas.
I celebrate Jesus
through the successive
Manifestations of the Christ Spirit.

I'm working today so my Christian
friends can celebrate.
I'm on call. I have an admission
to hospice at 2 pm.

In the mean time I'm writing
this poem to the quiet,
thinking of all my neighbors
opening their presents,
and thinking of the ones
who haven't any presents,
no place to lay their heads,
not even a barn and manger.
The ones fleeing persecution
only to be treated like criminals.

Love thy neighbor.
The world is a small place, now.
Who is your neighbor?

And I'm thinking of my grandson,
a joyous smile on his face,
tearing open the gifts,
praying he'll grow to open
the gifts of the spirit
with the same excitement
and joy. The thrill of Christmas
Day soon grown old
like the new game or toy.
I see in his heart the desire
for the joy that lasts.

He just told you, Michael, Billy doesn't celebrate Christmas, he's working.
And you wish him a merry time.

Lovely close, the love for the grandson

The thrill of Christmas
Day soon grown old
like the new game or toy.
I see in his heart the desire
for the joy that lasts.
