#1 Post by Michael (MV) » 26 Nov 2015, 13:48

any newcomers or returnees this month, Welcome!

and here is a home link to the IBPC rules: http://ibpc.webdelsol.com/rules

Poems recommended to represent the Block are posted here in this thread, along with all IBPC required info.

When the 1-3 are decided upon, and permission granted by each author of the selected poems,

along with the all info needed by each author:

1/Your name

2/e-mail address

3/statement that the poem is your original

4/and unpublished work

5/and that you are not representing in the current IBPC

6/and the poem as you would like it forwarded to the finals.

^^ All of the above is the usual needed info as part of the process.

I will then forward the 1-3 to the IBPC finals.

Please reply - accept or decline - in this thread.

Thanks,

Michael (MV)

I don't think any of my poems in November are IBPC quality but since there isn't much of a choice, here is my poem, unless, Michael, you prefer another:

to return we must all go into the wind

homeless
the child isn't sleeping
beside the fence

what country
do i call my own?

his scarf
flutters in the wind
fallen flag

for what will i die
any less than life?

distance
too far too close
now silence

is my grave dug
from the soil of the heart?

a fence
doesn't keep out
the wind

This is my original work, has not been published, and I'm not representing any other workshop.

Cenotaph - Poem entry for Decemebr 2015

#6 Post by FredFourth » 06 Dec 2015, 14:20

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.

Robert Laurence Binyon (1869-1943)
The Times, September 1914
Cenotaph

Emma crawled onto my lap as we watched the
Cenotaph service. She burrowed in wanting her hug
Ieuan, pause -
Is heaven full of soldiers with no legs?
Her question floored me, how was I to reply.
Em, intelligent child, asking the eternal
question,
'Where do we go when we die?'

Her logic derived from snippets of news reports
and a garbled knowledge of scripture. My answer
is of course: not all who fall go there faith is the
key that unlocks that gate.

There are no old or young there,
male or female,
black or yellow,
bruised or broken,
Jew or Gentile,
amputee or diseased.

Flesh or blood cannot enter there,
the same bodies but changed,
mortality into immortality.
At the last trump in an instant,
through the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ

Em accepted my explanation,
it is true, Ieuan said so.

3/ This is my original work

4/ This is an unpublished poem other than that of workshopping

5/ I am not representing any other board with any of my poems
in the IBPC for the month of December 2015

6/ The poem is as above
