Upcoming August IBPC 2017:

#1 Post by Michael (MV) » 25 Jul 2017, 22:01

any newcomers or returnees this month, Welcome!

and here is a home link to the IBPC rules: http://ibpc.webdelsol.com/rules

In this thread, from the poems posted in the workshop forum during the course of the month, recommend/nominate by title & author.

Nominated poets, please acknowledge the nomination here in this thread.
Please reply by accepting or declining the nomination - in this thread.

Please note & observe: This is not a workshopping thread.

In this thread, poems that are ultimately selected to represent the Block are then posted here
as the author would like for the poem to be forwarded
along with all IBPC required info.

When the 1-3 poems are decided upon, and permission granted by each author of the selected poems,

along with all the info needed by each author:

1/Your name

2/e-mail address

3/statement that the poem is your original

4/and unpublished work

5/and that you are not representing in the current IBPC

6/and the poem as you would like it forwarded to the finals.

^^ All of the above is the usual needed info as part of the process.

I will then forward the 1-3 to the IBPC finals.

Thanks,

Michael (MV)

I second Billy's nomination and add my nomination for Bob's new poem.

Van Gogh in Paris

I no longer strove for scenes
so dark they could have been sketched
with stubs of coal.
Flowers were cheap

and I had no money other
than Theo’s. So I painted
as if there were fields
of flowers to be found

in Montmartre. Reds
of gladioli, coppery
petals of fritillaries,
the buttery yellows

of daffodils. I hung
my drawings and paintings
from floor to ceiling
in the Cafe du Tambourin

as if it was the Salon.
I had always been lonely.
Now friends of mine and Theo’s
were like the cafes

in this district, numerous.
I was intoxicated:
new styles of art were like hats
in a millinery shop,

everywhere.
I tried them all on:
Monet's, Seurat's, Gauguin's...
the hats fitting easily on my dandy’s

red head. But I was drinking
day and night,
my health failing,
as was Theo’s.

I had to leave Paris,
where I had arrived
like a gust of music
through an open window,

as Theo joked. Now my leaving
surprised him.
Why give up friends
for the south?

He shook his head,
worried, knowing loneliness
was more poisonous
than absinthe.

Yes,I third all three nominations-- Bob's, Billy's and Bernie's poems. If there is no term like third then I join hands with the one who has seconded all three poems.

I'm in accord w/ this triumvirate of B - brothers in broetry

So, if they each don't already have a poem committed to represent another board this IBPC (August 2017),,

then Bob, Billy, Bernie,

please accept or decline here in this designated thread.

If accepting, then please provide here in this designated thread all the needed info, and the poem as you would like it forwarded to the IBPC finals.

Thanks,

Michael (MV)

I'm not representing any other board, pleased to represent Block among such accomplished poets as Bernie and Bob. My poem is unpublished and my original work. Hopefully we'll get 1st, 2nd, and 3rd.

Siberian Highway

I dream of me in large, canvas-
covered trucks barreling through
Siberia, radio blasting Cossack music.

The driver laughs like a rapid river,
offers me shots of vodka, cigarettes.
We crash through wooden barricades,

wrap ourselves in heavy fur skins.
Someone's always chasing us, but who?
If only we could stop, fraternize

with the husky women in red scarves,
smiling as we wave hello and goodbye,
evading the black sedans on our tail.

Often, our trucks break through ice-
covered rivers, plunging to the frigid
bottoms. Our bodies frozen, mannikins

smiling blankly, waiting to be awakened.

Update Aug. 6th (re Upcoming August IBPC 2017):

#9 Post by Michael (MV) » 07 Aug 2017, 05:28

As of this posting, there is not a reply here from bernie.

I have forwarded Billy's Siberian Highway & Bob's Van Gogh in Paris on to the finals,

with the mention of a possible 3rd.

Should I send as an add-on for a 3rd my poem "disembark"

I have as of now forwarded "disembark" as a possible 3rd,
if permissible with IBPC to add a 3rd at this time.
