IBPC-bound for October 2012:

#1 Post by Michael (MV) » 29 Sep 2012, 04:44

The Block editors will select 1 poem, and I, MV, will select the other to go to IBPC.

Note instructions:

Please direct selected poems plus all the necessary info as delineated below into this thread. This includes, if the need be, arranging substitutes in regards to your choices.

When we have channeled all the required info to here in this thread, MV will then forward the 2 poems and information to the finals.

As usual, let's aim to accomplish this by the 1st of the month.

1/ MV's choice:

2/ Editor's choice:

To each of the 2:

Please post ALL the required info in this thread ASAP.

Your permission (or decline).

If accepting,
then together with your permission in this thread
please supply in full these 3 necessary/standard details:

1/ Statement confirming that the poem is not published,

and that you do not have a poem already representing another house in this month's IBPC.

Please note here: If you have already decided/committed to represent for another board, please indicate here in this thread that you already have a poem going to the IBPC this time. The rule is: one poem per poet per monthly. Let us know here ASAP, so a substitute can be arranged. It is not necessary to indicate the poem or house. IBPC Official Rules: http://webdelsol.com/IBPC/rules.html

2/ your name & current e-mail addy.

3/ the poem as you would like it forwarded.

Thank you,

and Good Luck to the Block,

Michael (MV) and the Block Editors

Update 10/3 Wed evening

#2 Post by Michael (MV) » 04 Oct 2012, 03:45

I have not been very available to read & select at this time.

Siva appears to be about the only one active this month span

Siva, do you have any suggestions, including one of your own, which might be an IBPC contender.

Thanks,

Michael (MV)

Museum

Papa took us on Sundays
to sit and gaze at the museum
by night.' Look at the spotlight
focused on coconuts,
don’t they gleam like burnt gold?''
he would say.
The nuts shine, the leaves cast
black shadows, the red and white
building sits like a painting
on the mound; the loud speakers
of the radio blare, the Malayalam news
reels, Yesudas moves us
in Carnatic faith. Our parents
stroll around in circles. I
lift my frock a little
my brother has no need to.
We jump about, we gallop,
we eat cutlets and lick ice-cream
and savour banana fries
sure to come back a month hence,
to the beach, museum, Veli,
Kovalam, railway station, zoo
aquarium, and the sea-shore temple,
Muruga at Manjalikulam . Sometimes
Arivikara, Neyyar, but
always the museum.

The morning museum is another story.
It's my realm. Like a native I lead
my county relatives, with the well learnt
talk of a tourist guide hammered in,
so that the throne, the kings who sat
on it, the bed the Thamburatis lay on,
the palm leaf umbrella and
the royal wooden-slippers, the ivory comb,
the Gita, the sword, the shield
is all a velvety story.

His story, her story, its story, their story
whatever it is, it is not for me to explain
every toothpick.
