Upcoming IBPC for June 2013:

#1 Post by Michael (MV) » 28 May 2013, 22:07

any newcomers or returnees this month, Welcome!

and here is a home link to the IBPC rules: http://ibpc.webdelsol.com/rules

Instead of 2, the IBPC board has returned to each board representing with up to 3 poems.

^^ by 3 different poets of course.

Poems recommended to represent the Block are posted here in this thread, along with all IBPC required info.

When the 1-3 are decided upon, and permission granted by each author of the selected poems,

along with the info needed by each author:

1/Your name

2/e-mail address

3/statement that the poem is your original
4/and unpublished work

5/and that you are not representing in the current IBPC

6/The poem as you would like it forwarded to the finals.

^^ All of the above is the usual needed info as part of the process.

I will then forward the 1-3 to the IBPC finals.

Please reply - accept or decline - in this thread.

Thanks,

Michael (MV)

I nominate Michael's poem:

"the holy hounding / on the arena green"

my youth is not lost Atlantis
not bone-buried this is how I grieve
full-bodied to heighten and even
overwhelm the overcome

the flesh still sensates and resonates
endowment from the soul for life passion marks
remove the thorn - healed by a purple heart of gold
lionization with halo in tow (a mane that grows thin-resistant)

rock 'n hardy's rollin 'n shape
by wrestling to lose never
the sistine visions from vital signs
that point to like a sword parting sea
an extended detour to withdrawal
from the robust of concert-going days

Thanks Billy for the nom-nod.

I'm looking at Siva's snake poem

and Billy's surreal talking not praying poem, which lends itself to dream interpretation

I have read/been reading, but too busy to workshop.

To make it official, I permit, my original, unpublished poem

"the holy hounding / on the arena green"

to represent the Block. I'm not representing any other house this June 2013 IBPC.

So, how about Billy & Siva.

Please rely in this thread ASAP - if accepting, please provide all the needed info. Thanks.

I will need to forward by the extended deadline - June 6th Thursday AM.

Sincerely,

Michael (MV)

I'd be honored to represent the block. This is my poem and has not been published. i'm not representing any other board. Billy Howell-Sinnard, bhowellsinnard@gmail.com

Talking To Myself Without Praying

How can I love you
when you're lying
in the street, passersby
walking over you?

The father will save you,
but he's behind bars.
Mother's there beside you,
giggling. Pick yourself up.

Smile. Your friend watches,
waits. The man with a gun
leans against a pole
at the corner of Main.

or this one, I don't care which:

Guernica

"I paint the objects for what they are."
--Picasso

The horse launches a missile from his mouth,
or a rotten tooth. The sun is a light bulb, or
a light bulb emits light like the rays of a sun
drawn by a child. An arm broken off. A sword

broken. Orifices. Bullet holes. Bomb craters.
War hands prophesy suffering. Destiny etched
in their pleas. They all are saying something
that means nothing, but not to each other.

The galloping horse looks backwards in terror.
Like the wind, an angel descends from falling
buildings, holding a lamp, the flame a leaf--
peace--burning beneath the blackened sun.

No one would believe. They yell, can't be
heard above explosions. The woman's nipples
are detonators. The bull is a god with big balls.
He looks backwards, too. Destruction follows.

Sorry, did not see this thread. If there is still time ,then I would like to send my poem ,The Birthing of Snakes'.It is my unpublished poem.My e-mail id is sivakamivelliangiri@gmail.com

The Birthing Of Snakes

He began going to the Black MarieAmman
around and around the snake pit, as
I swallowed the rise of vomit.

We went back and forth to Mannarshala
with a vow of donating two bell metal jars
downturned them in the corner of the snake temple
to be upturned when our children were born;
the din of alloy still sounds in my ears.

Once we went to Kasi from Chennai with a heavy load
stupa of a stone snake intertwined in passion
the baby Krishna lying in a cradle in between.

The soothsayer was top class, he said
you have trampled on snakes in coitus
in your previous births, so the curse
follows you now, you will remain seedless
till you meet an Ayurvedic maestro
who will make you eat the ash of burnt snails.

I remembered Lawrence’s snake
and my thesis on that horrible black hole
Madam English telling me, you are too young
enjoy poetry but no psycho-criticism.

How as a child I had gone in for snake-skin jackets
collected from under the coconut tress
my amma naming some of them, she spoke in poetry
‘’see how the natural reptiles molt.’’

I keep wondering about our Upanishads
Gandhari cutting a piece of hard flesh
putting them into a hundred jars
and babies growing out of them
as stories that grow around the circle.
of the myth of the hen that swallowed the snake
and snake lings in my omelets.

My grown up son now wears snakes at the snake show
around his neck as the charmer holds the snake’e mouth
it is a simple demonstration.

I hold the dull red non-poisonous snake in my hands
and I choke, while nothing happened when I held
the viper and the crate.

A snake came to the cooking pandal at my wedding place
everyone prayed with camphor and incense
and it slithered away, I alone
kept my eyes full open.

Our past present and future is written
on palm leaves, has been written
many thousands of years ago.

Hi Siva,

barely was able to get Billy's Guernica and "the holy hounding / on the arena green"

Rus has truly been kind & patient about these deadlines - and with this final under his managership,
I unintentionally, needless to say, pushed it beyond the max.

I, on behalf of the Block, was fortunate to have forwarded those 2 to the finals yesterday afternoon - circa 24 hours ago.
They were received & confirmed by Rus (Thanks, Rus).

Thanks anyway, Siva,

and if you are not representing elsewhere in next month's IBPC, perhaps you might then represent the Block.

Michael and Billy
I feel happy that both your poems have gone. And I am also happy that my poem ,"The Birthing of Snakes" has not gone, because it has not been worked on.I was away from our group for a week or so and that is why I did not see Rus's message. There will be better poems later on.
Siva
