Upcoming June IBPC 2015:

#1 Post by Michael (MV) » 27 May 2015, 07:10

any newcomers or returnees this month, Welcome!

and here is a home link to the IBPC rules: http://ibpc.webdelsol.com/rules

Poems recommended to represent the Block are posted here in this thread, along with all IBPC required info.

When the 1-3 are decided upon, and permission granted by each author of the selected poems,

along with the all info needed by each author:

1/Your name

2/e-mail address

3/statement that the poem is your original

4/and unpublished work

5/and that you are not representing in the current IBPC

6/and the poem as you would like it forwarded to the finals.

^^ All of the above is the usual needed info as part of the process.

I will then forward the 1-3 to the IBPC finals.

Please reply - accept or decline - in this thread.

Thanks,

Michael (MV)

Thank you, Michael, for considering to send my poem The Kettle Conundrum to IBPC. Yes, I would love to have it sent. Pasting below the version you have suggested on the poem thread, with a modification. Let me know how you find it.

Only birds understand
the blunt-beaked guilt of a kettle,
hear the shrillness of metal drum
and know it cannot enumerate wings.

But the kettle understands
its very presence allows water
not a moment of peace,
wings or not.

That’s why kettles in my verse
tend to lie face down in brown thicket
or black swamps,

while a bird flying from page seven to thirteen
fills forests in-between.

I would be glad to represent the Block. This is my original work, unpublished and I am not representing any other workshop.

the wish

batting a balloon in the air
with my great granddaughter
before it hits the ground
a chocolate cake
from scratch
baked by my granddaughter
the dog begs
from guest to guest
grabs a hot dog unattended
box of toys dumped
left for another box
dying to be tipped over
toys strewn
by the mighty wind
of childhood
candles lit
the flames about to go out
as the carrier slows
to let them rekindle
the song begins
a little off key
voices dragging
but everyone singing
his face angelic
in candlelight
the mighty wish
from his toes upward
blown upon the world
all the onlookers
wishing too
blow right along with him

OK, Michael. Here are the required details.

1. My name: Shriram Sivaramakrishnan
2. Email: shriiram@gmail.com
3. Statement: I hereby state that the poem, "The Kettle Conundrum" pasted below is written by me - which is to say that it is my original work - and has not been published anywhere. I also confirm that I am not represented in the June month IBPC anywhere and thus willing to have my above mentioned poem be forwarded to the finals.
4. My poem:

Only birds understand
the blunt-beaked guilt of a kettle,
hear the shrillness of metal drum
and know it cannot enumerate wings.

But the kettle understands
its very presence allows water
not a moment of peace,
wings or not.

That’s why kettles in my verse

I nominate Michael's "dying to attend a wedding" for the June IBPC.
