This is my original work, unpublished. I am not representing any other board.

In Perpetuity
After the mourners have left. The cemetery empty.
Vernon and I remove the flowers, the green plush
cover hiding the gears and metal of the lowering
mechanism. Three wide canvas belts hug the coffin
like tentacles. It sways in the breeze now that it is
free. Vernon winds the crank. I guide the coffin
down the narrow walls of its concrete vault that
the brochure calls Eternal Conveyance. The body
unaware of a finely crafted, polished bronze Blissful
Eternal Rest mid-priced model. Pillows of silk,
embroidered with a Bible verse, to lay the poor
dumb head that will turn to dust in fifty years.
Tomorrow, we set the cement foundation on which
to place a granite stone with the dates, the name, and
last words of the dead man engraved deep enough
to be read long after anyone will ever know who he was.

For When You Wake
'For When You Wake' is my original unpublished poem and I am not representing any other board this month.(March) My mail id is sivakamivelliangiri@gmail.com.
For When You Wake
Old man-asleep on the charpoy
you've heard of the wiry snake
that tunnels from ear to ear
making a 'u' curve in your jaw,
letting the venom froth at your open mouth.
Not for you the harmless rubber like mud snakes;
or the pencil thin ones with a conical head on a tendril,
tender as a green shoot dangling above your head.
Only the ear tunneling snake is fit for you:
you who split a whole village
and now your family's blood-stained aruval.

Re: Upcoming March IBPC 2016:
Siva,
Thanks for accepting & for providing all the info
and the poem, which I will forward as you have posted here in this IBPC thread; however,
on occasion- and this is not mandatory or conditional -
I need to bring a workshopping to your attention
that I read now thsat the last line is wordy - over written
"with the blood-stained family household 'aruval'."
^^ I read "'aruval'" brings authenticity - and I'm in accord, although I suggest italics: aruval
"family household" - 5 syllables of redundancy before announcing the agent: aruval
and I'm suggesting a bit of re-arrange for the 3rd - the aruval hasn't become blood-stained until after the act --
Only the ear tunneling snake is fit for you:
you who split a whole village,
and now the family aruval blood-stained.
or
Only the ear tunneling snake is fit for you:
you who split a whole village,
and now the household aruval blood-stained.
Siva, if you elect to revise the last, please use the edit mode to revise the poem here in this thread.
and ASAP, please.
Thanks, Siva,
in the spirit of creativity

for when you wake
Old man, who sleeps on the charpoy
you've heard of the wiry snake
that tunnels from ear to ear
making a 'u' curve in your jaw,
letting the poison froth at your open mouth.
Not for you the harmless as a worm water snake;
or the pencil thin with a conical
head on a tendril, tender as a green
shoot dangling above your head.
Only the ear tunneling snake is fit for you:
you who split a whole village
with the blood-stained family household 'aruval'.

Re: Upcoming March IBPC 2016:
Hi Siva,
I like: "Not for you the harmless rubber like mud snakes;"
^^ except "harmless" is an adjective that can be avoided, if shown as:
Not for you the rubber worm-like mud snakes;
And I, too, have heard another variation on the last, which you might consider at this time:
Only the ear tunneling snake is fit for you:
you who split a whole village,
leaving your family's aruval blood-stained.
Please indicate ASAP - today please
Thanks Siva
