Upcoming February IBPC 2017:

#1 Post by Michael (MV) » 29 Jan 2017, 08:08

any newcomers or returnees this month, Welcome!

and here is a home link to the IBPC rules: http://ibpc.webdelsol.com/rules

In this thread, from the poems posted in the workshop forum during the course of the month, recommend/nominate by title & author.

Nominated poets, please acknowledge the nomination here in this thread.
Please reply by accepting or declining the nomination - in this thread.

Please note & observe: This is not a workshopping thread.

In this thread, poems that are ultimately selected to represent the Block are then posted here
as the author would like for the poem to be forwarded
along with all IBPC required info.

When the 1-3 poems are decided upon, and permission granted by each author of the selected poems,

along with all the info needed by each author:

1/Your name

2/e-mail address

3/statement that the poem is your original

4/and unpublished work

5/and that you are not representing in the current IBPC

6/and the poem as you would like it forwarded to the finals.

^^ All of the above is the usual needed info as part of the process.

I will then forward the 1-3 to the IBPC finals.

Thanks,

Michael (MV)

Nominations from Frank:

Meenas17 - It is Dinner Time

SivaRamanamathan - An Island for the Wings of Garumba to be Engineered

Michael (MV) - Poem Arrived 12th Night - Found Epiphany Weekend 2017

Benie01 - Broad Swelling Air

N.B. It is a bugbear of mine but here goes -
Titles should be in Caps, first word and last and words longer than 4 letters
other words should be with no caps. I find it a bad example to
non mother English Speakers to omit caps in titles, there are no
punctuation marks in a title if a comma is demanded for clarity use a dash.

Thanks, Frank,

for your interest & suggestions

Perhaps others will voice nominations and/or second & third a nomination

Now,

if nominees will response here in this thread as to whether or not they have a poem already committed to represent another board.

If not, let us know if you accept the nomination, provided the poem meets the eligibility rules.

Accepting the nomination is not the same as a final decision to be forwarded to the finals;
but it does, however, let us know to consider your poem further in the process.

Thanks,

Hi Frank,

Thank you for your interest.

Frank,

If you don't already have a poem committed to represent another board this IBPC,

then please consider allowing The Love of Christ Constraineth Us to represent for Writer's Block.

Accept or decline in this thread ASAP.

If eligible & accepting, then please post the poem as you would like it forwarded to the finals, and also include the needed info, as usual.

Thanks, Frank.

this month. There have been four nominations and not one person has responded
to the nominations. Other boards have selected their entries days ago.
Only one poem went forward last month, surely we can do better this month
and send more than one. At the moment it seems there is zero interest.

Thank you for the selection for my poem to go forward
representing the board, here is the required information:

1. Ieuan ap Hywel

2. ieuanaphywel@aol.com

3. The following poem is my own original work

4. The poem has not been published

5. The poem is not representing any other board in the IBPC

6. The Love of Christ Constraineth

" . . . they would dig you in the side with a thick cross
off the rosary beads, where you got a thump on the side
of the head and where there would be constant putting
you down, shouting, . . . You got the cross in the side
of the ribs if you slowed down on your way to the laundry."
*

'It's a good system, the Archbishop said,
it takes the poor wee things from off the streets
away from brutal households and girls taken
in fornication by uncaring young men. Girls
who have fallen by the wayside, many with child.'

'We take them in, he said, wash them, feed them,
put a roof over their heads, give them a fine education
and for all this they just work their way through
what they owe in our laundries. It's not too
much to ask, surely?'

'And the church is glad to do this
as an act of mercy, for who otherwise
would look after and cherish these
unfortunate girls.'

'Ah, yes to be sure you are Father,
I mean your Reverence.' He stoops
to kiss the Archbishop's ring.
The government minister speaks
again, 'We will send you as many girls
as come to our attention Father,
it will do them good, yes indeed.'

The Archbishop waves his hand over
the government minister's head
in the form of the cross. The minister
simpers under the blessings
from the esteemed man of God.

Thanks, Frank,

for accepting to represent the Writer's Block,
and for providing all the needed info.

A minor suggestion:

so that the poem is not so top-heavy, and so the reader can reach the first line sooner,
would you please consider recasting these 3 lines to 2 lines, and relocating to the foot of the poem:

'An Island Waiting for The Wings Of Garuda To Be Engineered', is my unpublished poem and I am not representing any other board;my mail id is , sivakamivelliangiri@gmail.com.

An Island Waiting for The Wings Of Garuda To Be Engineered

Bali is my Kerala, from the bus we see:
huge trees, clinging vines,
statues of Gods waiting in the front yard
silently asking us to consider
the abundance of artists;

each house has three or four perpendicular towers
each village has three spacious temples of
Brahma, Wisnu, Siwa at the head, belly and foot;
a community hall where people of all ages gather
to socialize and worship.

Processions of Gods riding human shoulders,
gold tinted weightless flower pots, virgins-
beautiful young girls not yet women,
cute boys with bare chests who lead
nodding to unseen spirits.

Square palm-leaf plates, rice,
flowers, fruit, salt, chilli powder;
left to appease the spirits whom they invite
to ward off the evil ones
in the kitchen, in their bedroom;
at night they send them back
to where they came from;
their Gods too expensive to maintain
there sure are too many spirits, there.

Some say that the spherical earth
is like the turtle; others say
the turtle is the image of the earth; also that
the turtle carries the earth on its back.

Wisnu
sports a moustache, his metallic bust
bows in the amphitheatre; the shoulders
of Garuda are being assembled.
In the same island a volcano slumbers,
wisps of smoke escape, emit a dash of heat;
last year the volcano was active,
so now we can boil an egg in the ash
the remaining heat in it is just enough.

Last week, the tour guide tells us
an English lady fell into its belly.

Frank and Michael

Michael's 'It came upon a 12th Night', and Frank's ' The Love of Christ Constraineth' both deserve to represent the IBPC. My poem is just a travel poem, and I was hesitant because Saore's poem and many others are more deserving. But seeing that nobody has responded I have posted my poem here. Please accept if time permits.
