Upcoming July IBPC 2017:

#1 Post by Michael (MV) » 29 Jun 2017, 10:12

any newcomers or returnees this month, Welcome!

and here is a home link to the IBPC rules: http://ibpc.webdelsol.com/rules

In this thread, from the poems posted in the workshop forum during the course of the month, recommend/nominate by title & author.

Nominated poets, please acknowledge the nomination here in this thread.
Please reply by accepting or declining the nomination - in this thread.

Please note & observe: This is not a workshopping thread.

In this thread, poems that are ultimately selected to represent the Block are then posted here
as the author would like for the poem to be forwarded
along with all IBPC required info.

When the 1-3 poems are decided upon, and permission granted by each author of the selected poems,

along with all the info needed by each author:

1/Your name

2/e-mail address

3/statement that the poem is your original

4/and unpublished work

5/and that you are not representing in the current IBPC

6/and the poem as you would like it forwarded to the finals.

^^ All of the above is the usual needed info as part of the process.

I will then forward the 1-3 to the IBPC finals.

Thanks,

Michael (MV)

Thanks Bob for the recommendation; I'll PM bernie.

And, Bob, if you don't already have a poem committed to represent another board this July IBPC,

then what about your Fay Wray poem.

Thanks, Bob.

6/and the poem as you would like it forwarded to the finals.

Fay Wray

My career had detoured into macabre roles.
Finally I had signed on for a dramatic part.

I was duped, the film's script changed
when Carl heard the island's rumors.

Carl was determined to bring back
The Eighth Wonder of the World!

Hadn't he promised a prestigious part?
Here I was traipsing through a jungle

in a dress thin as moonlight.
    Who would have guessed

    that I would become famous,
    but as a joke?

    Every male ticket holder
    in New York was sniggering

    with his buddies--lewd jokes
    about me and Kong

     being passed around
     like buckets of popcorn.

To this day I long for a man
big enough to take me seriously

    --to treat me respectfully
    as he carries me off

    in his tender
    grasp

bernie (et al):

bernie, you have posted the following in the June thread - viewtopic.php?f=3&t=6573#p28849

to expedite, I have copied & moved to here, the appropriate thread:

Late Year

Winter long in tooth, but winter all right.
Used automobiles decorously rusted.
Buses, heavy and slow as water buffalo.

Women in scarfs like Arabs in Sri Lanka.
The men tramp the arctic with Shackleton.
The city cold as Rejevec or Pyonyag.

Stores close early, street traffic thins.
Traffic signals blink into the closing dark.
The quiet gloom, late winter in the city.

A cello next door, flat as plate glass.
My divorce, yellow pages of legal talk.
Mistakes I'm still trying to correct.

My small town is deaf and thoughtless.
It's winter, I am forgetful, comatose
like a dead letter in a rural post office.

Michael,
would it be possible to indicate what poems have gone through to the IBPC each month?
