Nominations for November, written in October

#1 Post by Billy » 15 Oct 2017, 21:48

Preface to the usual monthly:

I have been observing the workshop forum & the thread here at Palaver Upcoming October

viewtopic.php?f=3&t=6706

^^ here in this thread, please let us know ASAP if you are not going to be available to represent the Writer's Block -

then we will know not to consider that poem further.

I will be looking for consensus - a communal, workshop process

Which 3 would we like to see represent the Writer's Block in the finals?

After the 3 are selected, then will each author post - in this thread - the poem as the poet would like it forwarded,
and ALL the needed info/statements

Thanks for the early enthusiasm that in tandem with the workshopping.

************

any newcomers or returnees this month, Welcome!

and here is a home link to the IBPC rules: http://ibpc.webdelsol.com/rules

In this thread, from the poems posted in the workshop forum during the course of the month, recommend/nominate by title & author.

Nominated poets, please acknowledge the nomination here in this thread.
Please reply by accepting or declining the nomination - in this thread.

Please note & observe: This is not a workshopping thread.

In this thread, poems that are ultimately selected to represent the Block are then posted here
as the author would like for the poem to be forwarded
along with all IBPC required info.

When the 1-3 poems are decided upon, and permission granted by each author of the selected poems,

along with all the info needed by each author:

1/Your name

2/e-mail address

3/statement that the poem is your original

4/and unpublished work

5/and that you are not representing in the current IBPC

6/and the poem as you would like it forwarded to the finals.

^^ All of the above is the usual needed info as part of the process.

I will then forward the 1-3 to the IBPC finals.

I nominate Linda's poem:

He Was A Mechanic

When we were young I loved to watch him
work on the old Porsche in the yard.
I think he loved the oiled and moving parts
more than he did me.
I'd stand close, hand him the tools,
watch his face grimace in strength as he gripped
the wrench, the nape of his neck moist with sweat,
the way he cautiously probed the parts,
his blunt fingers placed into the throat of the carb-
freeing the choke, reaching deep into the mechanlics of it.
His thick veined forearms glazed with grease.
Intuitively he knew just what to touch to get it going.
He'd tighten the bolts, the clamps, the blue spark of the plugs,
press open the throttle--scent of gas--engine screaming
then quieted to an all encompassing purr.

Frank
Please withdraw your nomination of 'My Friend's Father.
I have not worked on it and I don't feel comfortable posting such a slipshod piece.
Thank you Siva

Of course, it's early in the month yet. But why not nominate as many as you think worthy. When poems are submitted to be published, there are hundreds and only a few are culled out. We just need to vote on the three we think should go after all the nominations. Maybe, before the end of the month, Linda, as an example, will right a poem I like even better. I'll nominate it.

BTW, Linda, and anyone else accepting a nomination, post the poem as you want it sent with all the info asked for in the rules above.
