Upcoming May IBPC 2017    (an earlier start)

#1 Post by Michael (MV) » 24 Apr 2017, 18:55

any newcomers or returnees this month, Welcome!

and here is a home link to the IBPC rules: http://ibpc.webdelsol.com/rules

In this thread, from the poems posted in the workshop forum during the course of the month, recommend/nominate by title & author.

Nominated poets, please acknowledge the nomination here in this thread.
Please reply by accepting or declining the nomination - in this thread.

Please note & observe: This is not a workshopping thread.

In this thread, poems that are ultimately selected to represent the Block are then posted here
as the author would like for the poem to be forwarded
along with all IBPC required info.

When the 1-3 poems are decided upon, and permission granted by each author of the selected poems,

along with all the info needed by each author:

1/Your name

2/e-mail address

3/statement that the poem is your original

4/and unpublished work

5/and that you are not representing in the current IBPC

6/and the poem as you would like it forwarded to the finals.

^^ All of the above is the usual needed info as part of the process.

I will then forward the 1-3 to the IBPC finals.

Thanks,

Michael (MV)

Frank has voiced a couple of nom-nods in the poem's thread.

Bob's The Mozarts Tour

and Bernie's Cowboy Novel in Japanese

and I'm recommending Billy's Jesus Brought A Blanket

Bob, Bernie, and Billy:

if you don't already have a poem committed to represent another board this current May IBPC,

then please or accept in this thread.

If eligible & accepting, then please provide ALL the required info in this thread.

Thanks

Michael (MV)

I accept the nomination. I'm not representing another board. This is my original work and unpublished.

Jesus Brought A Blanket

I had visited her two times
before the final visit. The first,
she was wearing a nightgown and robe,
couldn't sit still. With my help, she picked
her way to the bed, then back to the couch,
then back to the bed to lie down again.

"She's always been organized," says Monte,
her Pastor husband. She's fifty-nine years old.
It started with sudden onset of diabetes,
hospitalized with ketoacidosis. Blood sugar
was 1200, normal's 70 to 110. It was suspicious.
A CT scan discovered pancreatic cancer.
Too far along.

She denied pain that first evaluation.
"It's hard to tell; she has a high tolerance,"
added Monte. Diane told me she was seeing
herself in different rooms, but they weren't
in that house. They looked familiar, maybe
a house she had lived in as a child.

The second visit, she was delirious, wouldn't
keep her clothes on, threw covers off. Terminal
restlessness, couldn't sleep more than an hour
at a time. Family was worn out, protecting
her from falling, administering more meds.
Monte recounted how she had told him
she was ready for Jesus to bring a blanket
and take her home.

The final visit, the house is different.
The living room, where they placed the hospital
bed, seems larger, everything in order. Diane
is as still as shadows. She's dressed and covered
with a sheet and blanket. Everything's as it's
supposed to have been from the very beginning.

Update 5/3 Re Upcoming May IBPC 2017

#5 Post by Michael (MV) » 04 May 2017, 07:19

Good evening,

I have just discovered that bernie's poem, Smiling Through a Hotel Bar Window,
has also received a nom-nod from Frank.

Waiting to see if either of bernie's 2 nominated poems is available & eligible; and if so, which one he would prefer to represent WB.

Recommendations within the poem's workshop thread can get overlooked.

This is why we have a monthly designated IBPC thread at Palaver.

Thanks,

Michael (MV)

My original and unpublished poem that i prefer for additional coverage.

Smiling at a Hotel Bar Window

The year I came for you
handsome as the Prince of Wales,
a flat torso; my yellow slicker
glistening with storm water;

New girls replace your smile,
waving from a bar hotel window,
the dying voice of a waiter
in a corridor lit with a 40-watt bulb.

A gown slipping to the floor.
A gifted watch, haute horlogerie
sold in Paris at Patek Philippe & Co.
You spoke no more French than that.

Bernard Henrie

unpublished, my original work and not representing any other Forum
