Upcoming December IBPC 2017:

#1 Post by Michael (MV) » 27 Nov 2017, 06:18

Preface to the usual monthly:

I have been observing the workshop forum & the early thread here at Palaver: Nominations for November, written in October viewtopic.php?f=3&t=6796

Now, here in this official thread, Upcoming November IBPC 2017 viewtopic.php?f=3&t=6811

Voice your recommendation(s) here, and

Please let us know ASAP if you are not going to be available to represent the Writer's Block -

then we will know not to consider that poem further.

I/we will be looking for consensus - in keeping with a communal workshop environment

Which 1-3 would we like to see represent the Writer's Block in the finals?

After the 3 are selected, then will each author post - in this thread - the poem as the poet would like it forwarded,
and ALL the needed info/statements

Ideally, the only poems that really need to appear here are the final 3, when announced, hopefully by the 1st of November, if not sooner

^^ the intent is organizational - if poems appear here before the selection of the final 3, then there is a congestion -

Until the final 3 are announced, please maintain poems & workshopping to the Workshop Forum Thanks.

Thanks for the early enthusiasm in tandem with the workshopping.

It occurs to me to initial the official monthly IBPC thread earlier - maybe -

maybe middle of the month

Before then, as already does occur, IBPC noms can be voiced in the poem's workshop thread.

************

any newcomers or returnees this month, Welcome!

and here is a home link to the IBPC rules: http://ibpc.webdelsol.com/rules

In this thread, from the poems posted in the workshop forum during the course of the month, recommend/nominate by title & author.

Nominated poets, please acknowledge the nomination here in this thread.
Please reply by accepting or declining the nomination - in this thread.

Please note & observe: This is not a workshopping thread.

In this thread, poems that are ultimately selected to represent the Block are then posted here
as the author would like for the poem to be forwarded
along with all IBPC required info.

When the 1-3 poems are decided upon, and permission granted by each author of the selected poems,

along with all the info needed by each author:

1/Your name

2/e-mail address

3/statement that the poem is your original

4/and unpublished work

5/and that you are not representing in the current IBPC

6/and the poem as you would like it forwarded to the finals.

^^ All of the above is the usual needed info as part of the process.

I will then forward the 1-3 to the IBPC finals.

Thanks,

Michael (MV)

Summer Cruise

The Yucatan
turns men my age copper, we drip
like stevedores on a dock.

Deck chairs hold our sultry wives.
Birds turn in the cloying air, a cluster
of sullen islands slide starboard.

Natives sell ivory apes and shell
peacocks, shrink wrapped dope,
coconut oil and rotting fruit.

A lifeguard hooks a finger
into a teen's waistband, my wife
burns to a gold lion.

Fluttering pennants, breakfast jelly.
Our ship lumbers into a green breeze,
empty thunderheads ripple overhead.

My mind drifts, names fade,
the feckless afternoon dissembles.
A steel combo plays. Ja Da.

The Braeburn Tree

Mother-like it stoops to watch Sheba’s endless
sleep, drapes its blush pashmina over her in spring.
Its trunk inclines across the slender path to bask in
solar warmth; branches grasp us as we grapple to pass.

After harvest, we shovel it out, abandon windfalls
to compost the ground, around the gaping cavity.
Repositioned by the wishing well, we pamper it, hope
sap will course through veins again and the chasm left

will not be needed very soon. In February’s gloom, we wait
for the man trapped in traffic, carrying a mercy-potion.
It takes seconds. Max is swallowed by the void as soil
shrouds him. We replant nearby bulbs, in memoriam.

I first saw Max in a dream-chase, the tabby scurrying
from Sheba’s shady grave. Now Max rests beside her.
Seedtime rays and drizzle foster apple blossoms to unfurl
today; narcissi gently waver where heads once bowed.

Geoprosco Log

The king’s palace shimmers in moonlight
on the escarpment at Kufra
holy place of the Senussi

A cooling wind drifts over the rig
it grumbles and shakes with each mournful rotation
drilling deep for meteoric water

Gaddafi plots his rebellion against Idris
fainéant ruler of his harem, date palms
and the succulence of Al Jawfa

I kill the drive motor, tie down the brake
and call my errant crew who loll and yawn
around camel-dung fires, sipping coffee
served from ornate pewter pots.

They respond slowly, annoyingly - stretch
before ambling over for the pipe-change.
Irritable, they display dissonance at news
of the American moon landing.

Earlier that day we watched as small
dots on the horizon grew by end of day
into men, Nubians from the Sudan

I release the brake, let the string fall
into the sandstone aquifer.
The water-brake slows the eighty ton string into
a steady descent. I thrill to the roar – the gush
of water shooting out to the cooling pond

My time is up, three months, enough.
I plan my trip home, longing to see wife
and little boy. Juniehs rattle into my account
like triple seven's on a slot machine.

*****

and Many thanks for all the nominations, thank you.

Hi Frank,

To expedite I'll comment here on Geoprosco Log, the 3rd of our 3.

The poem doesn't punctuate; then punctuation appears -

Consistency, esp since here is narrative mode , I recommend punctuation throughout.

And sevens for "seven's" - grew for "grow" - and a few other minors -

See Below, then

ASAP, Please - comment - change, ok or not ok - on the suggested illustrated below.

I believe they serve to fine-tune/tidy the poem. in the spirit of creativity  8)   Michael (MV)
