Upcoming February IBPC 2018:
Voice your recommendation(s) here, and
Please let us know ASAP if you are not going to be available to represent the Writer's Block -
then we will know not to consider your poems further this month's IBPC.
I/we will be looking for consensus - in keeping with a communal workshop environment
Which 1-3 would we like to see represent the Writer's Block in the finals?
After the 3 are selected, then will each author post - in this thread - the poem as the poet would like it forwarded,
and ALL the needed info/statements
Ideally, the only poems that really need to appear here are the final 3, when announced, hopefully by the 1st of January, if not sooner
^^ the intent is organizational - if poems appear here before the selection of the final 3, then there is a congestion -
Until the final 3 are announced, please maintain poems & workshopping to the Workshop Forum. Thanks.
************
any newcomers or returnees this month, Welcome!
and here is a home link to the IBPC rules: http://ibpc.webdelsol.com/rules
In this thread, from the poems posted in the workshop forum during the course of the month, recommend/nominate by title & author.
Nominated poets, please acknowledge the nomination here in this thread.
Please reply by accepting or declining the nomination - in this thread.
Please note & observe: This is not a workshopping thread.
In this thread, poems that are ultimately selected to represent the Block are then posted here
as the author would like for the poem to be forwarded
along with all IBPC required info.
When the 1-3 poems are decided upon, and permission granted by each author of the selected poems,
along with all the info needed by each author:
1/Your name
2/e-mail address
3/statement that the poem is your original
4/and unpublished work
5/and that you are not representing in the current IBPC
6/and the poem as you would like it forwarded to the finals.
^^ All of the above is the usual needed info as part of the process.
I will then forward the 1-3 to the IBPC finals.
Thanks
Michael (MV)

Re: Upcoming February IBPC 2018:
I was thinking of nominating Eira's Anthem for a Father
but there was no response and Bernie pipped her at the post.
I am sorry Eira.
Maybe the rest of the forum could chip in with their
prefernces, either nominate or second a poem
already nominated. It's their forum, their choices.

Accepting a nom for
Trip By Water
my original work, not representing another Forum.
no other poem in the IBPC this cycle.
Bernard Henrie

The year I came for you I was handsome
as the Prince of Wales, flat torso; lissome,
rich enough to buy my way out of trouble.
Two women, crisp as a ski trail,
spoon onion soup from a silver tureen;
I travel alone, no longer able to tell
Copenhagen from Stockholm.
I take a hot milk punch, lazed delphiniums
a blue memorial to my solitude.
The languid diesel engine, the dying voice
of a hallway steward, a corridor to my berth
lit with orange, 40-watt bulbs that blink
as the ferry noses the Danish coast.
I had you on a ship like this, years ago.
Your rubaiyat hair surrounding your face
like a bezel for a haute horlogerie watch
sold in Paris at Patek Philippe & Co.

I accept the nom for 'Goldback Fern'. Thx, Frank
Goldback Fern
Under bay laurels we looked up
at insects flitting
through a lemony light.
In the distance sunlit clouds
brushed the grassy hills blond,
the way the goldback fern's underside
leaves behind a yellow dusting.
You pressed one against my jeans,
a golden handprint on my right thigh.
We lingered, hiking slowly,
the moist fingers of ferns
stroking our wrists,
our arms. With narrow trails
I found easy excuses to brush
against you, carrying your scent
home with me.

Alien
A pump in his pocket
keep s him alive;
bilge of old seawater
from a dying planet.
He is ancient even in earth years.
Everyone he's ever known
in two worlds is gone.
They opened his chest once
to remove what was the matter:
Indian head penny, old pocket watch,
and a yellow cat's-eye marble.
At night, he slips his human skin,
hangs it in the closet
next to his one good suit.
Doors locked and all shades drawn,
at last he is free to be what he is;
a fish-eyed monster with raptor
scales who listens to Mozart,
sips Dewars, gazes through
the cloudless sky, waits for the signal
that will trip the diaode; the click
and whirl of wheels and dials
inside his head, the sequence,
the frequency of terminus.

I expect the poems have already been sent out, but just for the record, I second all of them. Great poems, sorry I've been away.
Best of luck to all.
