I am Not Myself Alone

#1 Post by FranktheFrank » 10 Aug 2018, 17:25

I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made:
Psalm 139:14 - KJV

‘We are not just one,’ he said,
We are in fact a vast multitude
of over ten thousand million million
or 10 to the power of 15.
But to meet unity we must have
that number to make us whole.

Should you scale us up where an atom
would be the size of a pea and enter
the structure of one of us then
you would find yourself in an enclosure
a half mile across and this supported
by a complex framework of girders.

Within, millions of millions of objects the size
of basketballs and some the size of an auto
would whiz around at the speed of a travelling
bullet. You would not survive of course as you
would be pummelled and ripped apart
a thousand times a second.

A poem based on p. 334 of:
A Short History of Nearly Everything
By Bill Bryson

Im not familiar with the book, but I think the thrust of the poem is about how complex and intricate the human body is, to the extent it must have had a designer. There was a sci fi movie in the 70's about miniaturized scientists being imjected into the body of a powerful man in hopes of curing him

This reminds me of that.

The poem may ask from those not familiar with the work you cite, or disbelieving of creation.

But I find it intriguing

Interesting concept, carried further-

and if you were agile and found your way to my brain and connected to my thoughts, you would be amazed, or offended, perhaps embarrassed or a little ashamed.

Enjoyed, very creative.

Hehe, These kind of poems are not my favourite,
but seeing the vogue practiced often in poetry forums
I thought why not try it.
It is of course about the human cell. :)

Bill Bryson, author of the Appalachian walk
explains the human cell is such a fascinating
way I just had to write it up. In fact most
of the words are his, I could try a erasure poem.

Thanks for input both.
