"getting antique"   (a diptych)

#1 Post by Michael (MV) » 19 Jun 2019, 10:49

I am                                                                                        Unique
not aging                                                                                 antiques ageless
therefore I am                                                                         in time bulbs will burn out
but the charmed aura from the lamp
in time evolving                                                                      shines on
an antique out of time

as the Shepherd
fleeces my patina
and collects me
priceless for eternity

62 isn't old Michael
76 isn't old either
82 is oldish
92 is getting on for old
The oldest British citizen died last week age 112
that is old. :)

If you don't mind me saying.

I’m loving getting older and finding out how stupid I really was. But, hey, all the shit has been cleared away. It’s more real than it’s ever been, even without sex every day.

Thanks every one

I'm actually living & loving(hopefully as humanly possible) the time to be elderly as passionately as the time to be young(my concert-going days)

I posted this hoping & still hoping to get some workshopping-share

Thanks

😎

Your poems are unique Michael
it's difficult to know how to analyse
and contribute appropriate comments.

I see the pun on bulb and lamp,

also unique and antique as regards aging

the humour in fleecing a patina the pun on sheep
we are His sheep - He is the Lamb

and I see the wistful longing when we will most certainly meet

that's the best I can do as regards workshopping.

I don't know what you mean Siva,
If I want to keep a poem or comment
I use cut and past to Microsoft WORD
then cut and paste from WORD
to this forum if needed.

Frank
I read the preview and clicked, but not on the submit icon.So it went into a draft format. I am sorry for wasting your time.
It is a simple change of order in the stanzas, that I had read in Michael's poem.
What if

Unique
antiques ageless -
in time bulbs will burn out
but the charmed aura from the lamp
shines on

'til the Shepherd
fleeces my patina
and collects me
for eternity (.)

Will the meaning alter?

Sorry Michael, for jumping on the old age band wagon. I was more talking about my experience of old age. I assume you are not worried about old age being a believer in the afterlife. This life is just a drop in the bucket.

As to your poem:

It works, fulfills its purpose, and has a delightful rhythm. I thinks Siva's switching the stanza's changes the meaning.

Can man get antique?
Antique refers to rare, old items of high value.
Thanks.

Hi meenas,

Thanks for reading & commenting

It is a metaphor -
Instead of the cliché, getting old, wasting away, "getting antique" is becoming priceless; and actually Life, not a thing, is priceless & forever

in the spirit of clarity & creativity,

😎

Hi Siva,

Thanks for reading & workshopping.

Log-in, then go to the User Control Panel, and find Manage drafts; there you will access the stored draft.

I save drafts often, b/c, esp these days, I can't always focus & finish in a single sitting.

We suffered from drafts for years
since putting in central-heating
we don't suffer any more.

Love this poem, Michael and the use of 'antique'

You're certainly not old, but in my experience, once a person gets to 60, they begin to think more about aging.

Old people are referred to by the young
as antiques Meena
cruel I know
but I don't care
I agree with Michael, priceless
