Mexican Songs

Mexican Songs Spanish music is spilling over from my neighbor's yard. Is it a sad love song? It sounds bluesy, as if it concerns a cactus sharpening her needles, one that holds grudges for decades-- like my ex. She always feels bound to stick me with some barb. These songs are about my life: the son...

A Letter To My Future Wife

A Letter To My Future Wife If I were handsome, and a show off, confident like a frigate bird perched on a flowering balcony, my red sac swelling for you, could you fall for me? Imagine if I were humble, a hard working, dusky-footed woodrat... For you I would build a lodge-- with living quarters, a n...

Re: Invasion

Some good writing. Enjoyed. I like the ending...I would cut the last 3 lines.... they aren’t needed... and in this age “white virtual clean” may be misinterpreted as racist, not as pure of heart good close: The visitors reduced to tears respond in kind, sing back to their hosts. Two ancient peoples ...

Re: The Annunciation

Good subject... the last stanza is startling... I would consider cutting S2....not needed and for me a bit hard to visualize ... I would just end S1 on “sleep”.

My Funeral

My Funeral My life savings will leave just enough cash for fireworks-- something to celebrate my passing. Otherwise, who will come other than my bookie? His last chance to rifle through my open casket for change? Or maybe the heavy footsteps of my ex? Her last chance to soil my reputation? Let every...
