Drives and Driveways

Driveways, like smoke-coloured cars take us on grey journeys into the unknown Note. After being coached for years into the mysteries of Haiku and Senryu I offer a three line poem in a look-alike Japanese format and although said poem should be untitled I break the rules and give it a title. Like a b...

Narrative poem 'She's berthed at Phoenix Warf, Fred my boy. Lock your bike on a stanchion and climb on board, you might have to use a rope ladder. Don't worry, you'll get used to it. And watch out fer them ship girls.' He found the ship tied up to iron bollards at the quayside. No ladder, he tentati...

Re: The Showman who Catches Bullets in a Stomach Pouch

I felt he was a cheat, Bob, but of course you can't go around shooing people in the guts just for a shilling. It was his only way to make a living, for him and his girl-friend. They'd bought a cheap little trick from some shop for magicians and that is all they could do. Even if she'd missed the pou...

A Showman Catches Bullets in His Belt

. . . charges just a shilling to enter his tent ‘Now, would anyone like to be a witness?’ He shouts. His assistant is pretty a tad too old for pubescent boys Not too old after she shakes her derrière We take the bait and climb up on stage His props are arranged out of sight behind the screen: a deli...

Re: Testament

I have to agree with Dale on this. The poem is trying to associate Jesus with images and blasphemous attempts to seek God by primitive peoples. It cannot give a view of a gradually revealed theology which leads to the Son of Man born Christmas day. There is an attempt at humour but at the cost of a ...

Re: a senyru

I try to stick to the 5-7-5 rule, Caleb, but apparently anything goes in modern English language Japanese style poetry.
Michael is the expert in this, and to some extent Billy too. Michael has explained it several time, but alas

Re: The Sky (version 3!)

Caleb, I understand your position completly. Its best not to explain your poem or defend it from criticism, although I've done it. The idea is to post your work we thrash it or give accolades according to our perspective That doesn't mean we are right or that you are wrong the idea is to take from i...

Re: The Sky (new version)

Theologically you are out in that statement about the thumb. Mainline churches support the Trinity, that the three are one but distinct. Even Jehovah Witnesses now say Jesus is equal to the Father and Oneness Pentecostals say Jesus is the Father. It is as Bob says an irreverent and unwarranted if no...
