Kingfisher
I’ve always desired you,
your chestnut brown eyes,
your sky blue outfits.
If only we could bond the way
sky and sea partner in a storm,
inseparable.
Instead you remain
as distinctly apart from me
as a kingfisher on a perch
overhanging a pond, popular
as a town's only high school
homecoming queen.
You track rivals
with slight head movements
as if you don’t see them either,
as if they are mere spectators
on a gym’s perimeter
of a school dance,
but when a boy calls to you,
his voice like a breeze
riffles your small
heart.

I see your love of nature and in particular birds in your poems Bob.
Metaphors and similes.

Re: Kingfisher
I know little about rooks.
We have a murder of them roosting near my home
hence my 'Urban Crow' poem.
When I pass by they give the: 'good human' caw.

The good human caw… I like it!
