Bawdy Songs, To Be Sung In Private

The garden’s fragrance
is like a bar of soap
just unwrapped.
The world waits for me
to join her in the tub,
the one with cat’s feet.

Those morning glories
lift their blue
and purple skirts
with no more sense
of proper behavior--
in public--than the smallest
of children.

That age
when kids want to run naked
or to pull their dresses up
to show their Frozen
and Cinderella underwear
to everyone.

They are more innocent
than William Blake and his wife
who famously sat naked
in their garden
reading Paradise Lost
when a visitor
dropped in.

I want to live like them.
And why not?
Doesn’t Milton shamelessly admit
what everyone hopes,
that even angels
enjoy sex?

Some days I want
the world to be a nudist
colony, one where it’s only
appropriate that I join in
—but I do not wish
to defend my love
of the world to the police.
Such reckless behavior!
It would be like riding a roller coaster
without clutching
the safety bar!

No, it’s best to avoid
censors altogether,
to hum my songs of naked women
only to myself,
the way a bee emerging
from under a blossom’s
petticoat
does

—never writing
its lyrics down.

Anyway, eunuchs apparently enjoy sex… sex being more than just intercourse. Sometimes kings put eunuchs in charge of their their harems, thinking their girls weren’t in danger of inappropriate behavior!… if only we had some of these eunuchs’ diaries!
