This Isn't a Poem About Easter

Sumerians say Ishtar hung naked
on a stake, later to resurrect
from a mythical underworld.

The Venerable Bede in Reckoning Time
reminded Mercians of the Anglo-Saxon
celebration of the goddess Eostre
in Pagan feasts at April.

My sister still complains she waited
thirty minutes after Sunday School
for me to end my game of marbles
leaving when I lost my last ally taw.

These ancient Germans in turn took
from the Proto-Indo-Europeans
goddess of the Dawn: Hewasos
and hares and eggs – fertility.

We celebrate Paschal, the new covenant
in His blood, the last Supper commandment
to eat of His body and drink His blood
to gain everlasting life, he rose like the sun
so that those that believe on His name are His.

nothing new under the sun

a "rose" is a "rose" is a "rose"

Then the Savior arrived & arose

What's real can't die

after Frank's response: "That's a poem Michael"

A poem about the real meaning of Christmas
A poem about the real meaning of Easter

A poem about the real meaning of Easter
is a poem
about the real meaning of Christmas

The midnight son
is the Savior
of the moon
and in the morning after the gory
the glory of sunny days without end

In Heaven
There are no sunsets
The sun never sets
The Son is always on the rise

I agree with Frank.... the simplicity and cleverness are appealing
