The Sudden Flapping Of Wings

You don't seem to care
so I couldn't have startled you.

Who am I to send you packing?
You own this street, all the streets.

Did some little voice say skedaddle?
Are you black on the inside, too,

harboring a doomsday weltanschauung?
You wouldn't answer if you could.

I believe you know how the world
will settle out, your only hint, "Caw, Caw."

Your only hint, "Caw, Caw,"
haunts me.

The disrespect we show to the bird is well expressed.
