Red, Red Moment

#1 Post by Billy » 23 Oct 2020, 04:10

Red, Red Moment

It doesn't last; what does?
My light fading. So much I
missed while the stars blaze

for centuries, millenniums.
Somewhere at the center
a star shines too faraway

for it to know of existence.
Darkness thick as ignorance
surrounds it, would snuff it

out like a candle between
its calloused fingers that
never knew a day of labor.

I like this poem quite a bit. It took me several reads to appreciate it. The heart of the poem is "My light fading..". So much we miss out on because of our brief lives. And even those long haulers the stars will be snuffed out by forces outside their control(like us).

Hi Billy,

I esp like:

Somewhere at the center
a star shining too faraway

to know it exists for sure.

Also, I like the image Darkness thick as ignorance

The candle snuffed reminds me of the candle imagery in Shakespeare's Othello & Macbeth - and I like that subtle kinship orbiting the classics

workshop consider labor for "work" -

never knew a day of labor.
