a bunch of short poems

#1 Post by Billy » 07 Dec 2021, 04:18

damselfly
some are too tender
for this world

write from the spot
moving around inside you
it returns in dreams
________________

a sister song

i wear unbuttoned
close to my skin
an animal

whose howl
undresses me
__________________

he can't
be left alone

a child
tagging along
in the shadows

still frightened
__________________

the end
whatever was lost
or missing
__________________

rainy day
sky all over
the road
________________

heat lightning
i still think of her
on summer nights
__________________

getting older

less concerned
about what's been lost

more and more
what's happening now
before it's lost
____________________

love
everything that is
or will be
___________________

a wild animal
has no secrets

nothing to forgive
or forget
doesn’t lie awake

thinking about death
____________________

willow tree

the nights
you held me

the river
we crossed
in our sleep
_______________________

dusk

the birds have quieted
trees are dark silhouettes

my shadow
takes ease in the blank
screen of the sky
_____________________

crows
gather
on the curbside

strut
into the busy street

black and shiny
______________________

ikebana

arrange flowers
so simple

a poem
what's unsaid
is the beauty
_______________________

nightly

a tiger leaps through the window
lies beside me on the bed

a low growl
lulls me to sleep, giant paws
and claws wrapped around me
_______________________

our reasons
always had us
doubling back

to start again

only this time
you kept on going
______________________

meals were important

everyone left their rooms
and their pacing
to eat

in selfless conversation
amid the occasional scream
________________________

A knee
is all I ask.

Two would be better
but a knee will do.

A floor.
It doesn't have to be marble.

Dirt will do.
A few rocks
to grind a knee on

but that might be
too much
to ask

______________________

autumn
deep reverberations
of a falling leaf

nothing lost
or gained

take us as we are

Three of these worked well for me. My favorite "Ikebana"....I also liked the opening "damselfly" poem and the mysterious "a sister song"...great last 2 lines in it.

ikebana

arrange flowers
so simple

a poem
what's unsaid
is the beauty

Hi Billy,

I enjoyed these a bunch 😎 Michael (MV)

"rainy day
sky all over
the road"

rainy day
sky splashed over
the road

or

rainy day
sky splashed
over the road

"a poem
what's unsaid
is the beauty"

^^ I heard my brother's voice:

"Heard melodies are sweet, but those unheard
Are sweeter;" -- John Keats
