An occasional poem must rise above the occasion:

#1 Post by Michael (MV) » 29 Dec 2021, 17:13

Sunday December 9th 1965
I just turned 8 my little sister 6

and Charles Schulz' comic strip cast is set
hoping the premiere to be a huge hit

but the bah humbug in marketing predicts
disaster for A Charlie Brown Christmas:
"Child actors voicing the characters
no laugh track
a never-green runt tree
a jazz score
and a depressed lead character
all spell doom"

However that evening with the children
voicing the characters
and since real laughter can't be canned anyway
the breath of jazz a fresh herald
scoring off the charts already

yet for a grand finale -
as that depressed lead character
(with a little help from faithful friends
that is Linus encouraging with words from Luke)
rises above the occasion soaring
higher than the Rockefeller tree
revealing in satellites what Christmas truly is all about

the film debut of the all-star Peanut ensemble
like the First Noël has arrived
appearing through the airwaves an instant classic

forever-green like love at first tele vision
broadcasting globally each yuletide since
bringing the good news to us all every one

Excellent piece, MIchael. A nom from me. The images are simple and strikingly fresh. A perfect poem for these holidays.

Thanks, Bob, for the read, the review,
and for the nom-nod.

I'm not yet sure about the title. Although there is word play in the current working title, maybe this tree should be topped with the abbreviated: "for all seasons," particularly since the "rise above the occasion" occurs in
the course of the poem.

"For all seasons" also references the broadcasting of this production(and manufacturing of by-products prompted by it) as a reoccurring, anticipated special each Christmas season since its debut in 1965.

These 3 words in essence are synonymous to the longer title: A classic enduring Christmas after Christmas.

😎

This made me watch the movie again after so long. Good poem, universal appeal even though a period piece.
