Sea Cucumber

#1 Post by BobBradshaw » 16 Jul 2022, 22:56

Sea Cucumber

When I entered a restroom.
I learned to close my eyes
when approached
as if I too was without eyes
--or limbs to defend
myself with.

Almost daily I “donated”
my lunch money
to my enemies.
Often I was beaten up,
a reminder
that I was no more
than a pudgy tube of flesh.

I retreated into fantasy
where as a giant sea cucumber
I’d eject my organs
at them from my anus,
leaving them in eternal
disgust.

What I most longed for
was to be a sea cucumber
as bright fish swim above it,

overlooked.

Very creative and unique. Id change restroom to " boy's room to further cement the poem.

The last stanza is powerful because of understatement, the predatorial nature of bullies.

Nice job.The bastards.

Very good, relatable poem. I especially like the third stanza and the revenge the boy gets is so right on for the imagination of a boy that age, gross and startling.
