My Son’s Band…Making Hamburg Forget The Beatles

My Son’s Band…Making Hamburg Forget The Beatles

For months they pounded away
on drums with the “intensity
of a mugging,” as one neighbor

put it. "God, the tinnitus
I got from those electric guitars...
Only 2 year olds whine worse.

Only they don’t jam
together in garages
on Sunday mornings!”

To be honest,
I enjoyed their punk music,
the raw energy. This month

my son's band's touring Europe.
They're gonna make Hamburg
forget the Beatles.

Then they're off to Rome,
where girls are everywhere,
like cats at the Coliseum.

What about your future? I ask.
That's when he admits
they shared a dressing room last night

with 14 year old bangers,
who swore and gave them
the middle finger:

"You suck. You're old."

Once in Rome they're playing
at The Gladiator. Sold out. "No one,"
my son assures me,
"under 18 gets in."
