Shah of Iran

In the shadow of Mount Damavand
a phalanx of Cedars needle back

those who push a little to get
a clear view of downtown Teheran.

In 1936 the Shah wanted moderation
for his country, thought its religious

practices a bar against modernity.
Beginning with Kashf-e hijab which

outlawed wearing the veil, he moved
the secret police to bazaars to

forcefully rip the face coverings off.
Many women committed suicide.

Lipstick was a human right and skirts,
a little eye-liner, education.

Hi Ken,

Makes a strong statement without making a statement - that's strong poetry.

Some grammaticals, and etc. incorporated:

In the shadow of Mount Damavand
a phalanx of Cedars needles back

those who push a little to get
a clear view of downtown Teheran.

In 1936, Reza Shah wanted moderation
for his country; thought its religious

practices a bar against modernity.
Beginning with Kashf-e hijab, which

outlawed wearing the veil, he moved
the secret police to bazaars to forcefully

rip the face coverings off.
Many women committed suicide.   (consider: Many women took their lives.)

Lipstick was a human right; and skirts,
a little eye-liner, education.
