That's Some Good Shit

That's Some Good Shit

You know how the Bible says nothing's hidden,
that all comes to the light, and when you least
expect it. Your life couldn't be better. Friends
abound. A girlfriend who you'd marry if you
weren't so young. The world at you disposal.

You've tackled all the big questions, and the
answers are as clear and undeniable as stars
in your boundless sky of youthful enthusiasm.
How could a coat, an old beat up, herringbone
jacket hold such importance in the world

I thought could never end. I didn't think
about an end. I laughed, uncontrollably, in-
haling the bright, oddly fragrant new world
I kept in the breast pocket of that old coat,
a secret as old as civilization, stigmatized,

the answer to a wall of hypocrisies that the
old guard expected me to walk around
in complacence, honoring it like a monument.
My revolution was both without and within.
Foolishly, I had forgotten how different

my new world was from the one I had left
after that first deep breath of freedom
until the day my father asked to borrow
my coat. Sure, I said, still giddy, high
in my secret self so easy to enter in one

deep breath, like a magical room always
available to live in right under their restricted
vision. He returned an hour later, laughing,
then feigned a stern countenance, saying,
that's some good shit, be careful, it's illegal.

I like the close the best...I like S1 as an opening stanza a lot. The whole poem works.

He returned an hour later, laughing,
then feigned a stern countenance, saying,
that's some good shit, be careful, it's illegal.

It reminds me of all the time you and Bob have advised
me to cut, and cut more.
I like the poem, and the new style developing.
Maybe this is really you, the style you are comfortable with.
I remember you telling one of mine reminded me of Bukowski.
I looked him up and liked his work.
I tried his style, but it didn't work for me.
And I think we change as we write more.
I can't write at the moment, big events in life.
Anyway, I liked the poem.

Thanks Bob, Frank

It's all me Frank. I like to experiment. My style is to tell my truth as best I can, "with a slant".
