Letting Go

Letting Go

A young woman helps him out of the car.
He tells me, Miss Coats, my music teacher.
I say, he loves music, think, what kid doesn’t.
She says, he's one of my best singers.
He tells her, I get a little crazy, and laughs.
She laughs and says, we have fun. Before

she closes the car door, he turns and says,
love you. Such a serious look on his face
as if he's not wanting to leave me, but
music class and fun await. He forms
a heart for me with his thumbs and index
fingers. I make one in return, wondering

when I won't be here to say goodbye to,
hoping he'll sing and get a little crazy.

Wonderful piece. The characters, the language are handled deftly. The tenderness of this is very appealing, and I have read it many times already.
