Red Robe
A red robe for eternity
is the stranger's reward.
In the raging river
in the name you've called out
in the night when the moon
had nothing left to reveal
drained of light, a face
unknown to the drifter
to the lover who's forgotten
his own self
gazing into every mirror
finding nothing
except complete loneliness
that suffices like birth.

Re: Red Robe
A failed romance, drained as is the moon of its light, loneliness as palpable as a red robe… poignant writing

Re: Red Robe
It's too obtuse for me. I didn't get it until Bob explained in his post.
Does poetry have to be an enigma. Bukowski came out and just said it straight
too in-your-face straight and crude with it, filthy crude, not that I'm advocating
crude poetry. He has a large following now he's passed over, or as he would say
stiff as a board.
